The Wörthersee is the most prominent resort lake in the south of Austria; 17km in length, and turquoise blue waters. Lake Wörthersee stretches out over a southern valley of the Alps- Adriatic region, very close to Italy and Slovenia. At its shores you find numerous well known places like the glamorous town of Velden with its Casino, Pörtschach with its flower promenade, the famous pilgrimage town of Maria Wörth and the provincial capital Klagenfurt with its perfectly restored Renaissance buildings, the beautiful courtyards and the bustling historic center.
Countless events like the Iron Man Austria, the A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slam or the legendary Volkswagen GTI car week offer excitement for everyone. Enjoy the striking contrast of party nightlife and magnificent untouched natural landscapes like the 4-lakes-valley of Keutschach or the colorful barely touched region around Schloss Moosburg at the lake's north shore. The water of Lake Wörthersee warms up to 27°C and is as clean as it can get: You can drink the water. It offers the perfect water playground for swimming, sailing, surfing, water-skiing and sunbathing.
Around the lake you will also find a huge variety of sports facilities: 4 golf courses, the pleasant loop bike trail and numerous hiking trails. Enjoy breathtaking views from the top of the recently reopened Pyramidenkogel which is the world's tallest wooden observation tower.
